Hot Spot – an interactive data visualization app

The Hot Spot app combines a simple three-panel system to provide a ‘heat map’ of easily customizable data showing popular locations nearby. This app is useful not only to see where people are checking in during any given hour, or day, but also to investigate or track large-scale trends in the popularity of places over time.

Five Star Pizza : Rebranding

The concept for the rebranding of Five Star was to strengthen their core brand attributes of speed and availability (very fast, 24-hour delivery) while solving their issues of appearing cheap and low-quality. The logomark retains the swiftness associated with their delivery service while the strong yet elegant type treatment relieves the association with cheapness. The focus is on the happiness late-night pizza brings consumers, which is brought through the copywriting and surprise messages on the insides of the boxes.

Five Star VIP App

The iPhone application is an addition to the system: providing drunk-proof pizza ordering. Market research indicated that the biggest problem with ordering pizza at night is communicating location and credit card information with the employee on the phone. This app removes these issues from the equation. Card information is stored ahead of time, so when pizza is desired, the experience goes like this:

Push the “order pizza” button

Five Star locates the user, via GPS, while a photo of the user’s last order is displayed

When location is confirmed, Five Star calls the user, and takes their order

The user is then told how long they can expect to wait, and is returned to a stopwatch countdown of when their food will arrive

If the delivery somehow takes longer than expected, the order is free!

Benefits: Streamlined order experience, no trying to figure out the address of your friend’s coworker’s party, and no yelling your credit card number over the music. Ordering pizza has never been more convenient.

Moholy-Nagy Branding & Photogram App

In addition to branding and curating an exhibit for the late & great László Moholy-Nagy, I designed a generative art application. The user would combine photos from their smart phone to create fun and easy-to-share photograms. The possibilities are endless. I wonder what Moholy-Nagy would think of iPhones…

Big & Bold Book Jacket Series

Big & Bold is a series dedicated to the big ideas of three bold designers: John Hartfield, Art Chantry, and Benjamin Savignac. They each utilize thoughtful and intense photomontages to communicate their message. The jackets are designed to be bold, present, and unique yet cohesive and beautiful. The books provide a link to a website, where fans can order merch and share the series with friends.

Library West Wayfinding System

At the University of Florida, the second floor of Library West is an enigma to many.
Twitter Bird Stickers

I conceived the idea of a guerilla sticker campaign to build Gainesville Fashion Week’s twitter following. We began by creating lists of tweets as a team. We narrowed the list from about one hundred down to twenty, and then I provided the art direction for the sticker design. Our stickers are still circulating and being put up by friends and fans of GFW.

An Infographic: Let’s Party (At Midtown!)

Subtitled “where and when to go out drinking with your friends,” this infographic is designed for college students who work hard and play hard. It describes the various drinking establishments of Midtown Gainesville chiefly in terms of drink specials and occupancy levels throughout the day (or night).

The central ‘map’ sets the color system by pairing each venue with a hue. The data even goes on to show what days are best for each venue, the type of music, whether or not there is food, and required age for entry. For those extra-long weeks, a color-coded time graph explaining “The Marathon” is included in the upper right hand corner.

Plugged In: A portrait of the Internet Generation

This ominous, frightening image explores the idea of the Internet Generation. In an era where everything we want is accessible at the touch of a button, instant gratification is expected and demanded. We derive our life force from this interconnectedness, from these constant interactions. Whether or not we choose to participate, we are all connected all the time. The grungy scene is not only a metaphor for our present state but also depicts what life may be like once we become merged with the technological devices that we take for granted.

Makeup Graffiti

The portraits doubled as canvases expressing some of the self-conscious thoughts of young adult women and their personal experience with makeup. I wanted to explore a new topic in a familiar way, but use entirely different materials to do so. The writing was done with lipstick and eyeliner. Shot with Cannon Rebel XS. Edited in Photoshop.
